LACNIC XV, the First Major Internet Event of the Year

Major stakeholders and professionals working on Internet issues in Latin America and the Caribbean will meet from 15 to 20 May in Cancun, Mexico, to debate what are currently the most relevant topics relating to the Internet and its future growth within the region.

At this meeting, the organization in charge of administrating the Internet within Latin America and the Caribbean (www.lacnic.net) and the Internet community will seek to respond to the challenge posed by the depletion of IPv4 addresses and to develop strategies that will lead to the effective adoption of the new IPv6 technology.

LACNIC XV will bring together leading professionals and specialists from around the continent and the main players of the regional Internet community (governments, civil society organizations, chambers and business associations, academic networks). This is a unique opportunity for participants to establish productive technical and commercial relationships.

The agenda of the meeting − which will be held at Hotel Gran Melia Cancu − emphasizes the new scenario that is emerging now that the central pool of IPv4 addresses has been exhausted, and there will be numerous workshops on IPv6 development and its impact on the Internet industry.

Another highlight will be the presentation of the RPKI system, a new technology developed with the aim of improving IP packet routing security.

The Cancun meeting will be attended by the largest telecommunications companies of our continent, so a new meeting of the Latin American and Caribbean Network Operators Forum (LACNOG) has also been scheduled.

Another issue that will be analyzed is Internet security and the new challenges being faced by the community.

The LACNIC XV agenda (http://www.lacnic.net/en/eventos/lacnicxv/agenda.html) offers a variety of activities to suit every participant: training sessions and workshops on new technologies presented by international experts, technical forums on regional interconnection and network security, as well as the Internet resource allocation Public Policy Forum.
